Black History Month - An hour with A.K.A Subliminal
Posted on: Jan 04, 2011 by John Anderson
As part of Black History Month, and in association with the Gloucestershire Race Equality and Diversity Service, (Fishpools) The EBA presented Sean Mauricette - A.K.A. Subliminal - Beat boxer, DJ, lyricist, hip-hop and soul musician in Gloucester Public Library.
Sean's message:"My talk focused around the importance of trying new things, understanding who you are and how being different is a good thing, respecting yourself and your community, surrounding yourself with positive people and the importance of never giving up. I used personal stories from my life ranging from the music and television industry to the architectural industry in hopes of driving home the message that being different is ok, and the chance for opportunity starts with you the individual.
I touched on personal struggles, self doubt and how I overcame those obstacles. The motivational talk was fun and interactive with bits of beat boxing and hip hop throughout. We ended off with an interactive, high energy beat box session where the kids made the beat LIVE on the spot and I performed a verse over the beat. This was one hour that will change their life and that they will never forget."
